What You'll Do

You will lead the development of design concepts for new and existing facilities by creating layouts and engineering solutions that address business requirements. You will support sales and business development efforts through presentations and provide capital budget estimates while mentoring other team members. This role requires approximately 40% to 60% travel, including some international trips.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop preliminary solution concepts and racking designs to meet customer needs and storage requirements.
  • Define and design layouts for conventional and automated solutions and prepare materials for supplier evaluation.
  • Direct facility layout efforts and provide drawing solutions and modifications for executive presentations.
  • Collaborate with general managers and facility management to develop layouts, cost estimates, and implementation schedules.
  • Assist in supplier selection by developing detailed RFPs, analyzing bids, and providing recommendations.
  • Support cross-functional teams in solutions development and project qualification.
  • Lead detailed design engineering and define scope and capabilities of warehouse control systems integration.
  • Other essential duties may be applicable and assigned as necessary.

What Experience and Education You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field and minimum 10 years of experience in consulting, automation, construction, or mechanical design within a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Project software required.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or simulation software required.
  • Ability to develop racking designs, automation equipment calculations, and facility layouts for storage and product requirements.
  • Ability to create RFQ/RFP documents, analyze supplier bids, and provide capital budgetary estimates.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, reaching, and/or bending.
  • Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work, including the operation of computers, telephones, and similar equipment.
  • Requires ability to comprehend and communicate with others verbally and/or in writing.
  • May require travel by automobile and airplane for business.
  • May require visits to warehouse operations in temperatures at or below freezing.
  • May require the occasional lifting, carrying, positioning, and/or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
